Biomedical engineering deals with a wide amount of problems in the biological-medical fields, analyzed with a multidisciplinary approach. Some of the main aspects involve the study of complex physiological systems, the design of medical instrumentation and prostheses, biomedical signal and image processing, the management of health technologies.

Research in biomedical engineering is devoted to the study of advanced mathematical models, especially in the cardiovascular, neural and biomechanical fields, to the development of innovative methods for biosignal and bioimage processing and for the aid to clinical decisions, to the design of new diagnostic, therapeutic and replacement techniques, to cellular and molecular engineering. Applicative fields involve the technologies for rehabilitation and for home aid (e-Health, m-Health), sanitary management, and the analysis of motor function.
