Research activities

The research activities deal with materials and components for Electrical Engineering and smart grids. In particular:

  1. electro-thermal characterization of semiconductive and insulating materials, also nanostructured, cellular piezoelectric materials and magnetic materials;
  2. diagnosis of solid, liquid and gas insulation systems, in particular through partial discharge and space charge measurements;
  3. developement of diagnostic techniques for smart-grids and super-grids

Teaching activities

Didactic activities regard the experimental lectures of:

  1. Technologies and diagnostics of power systems
  2. Electrical Asset Management
  3. Innovative Electrical Technologies
  4. Predictive Maintenance of Electrical Asset

as well as the development of experimental thesis on topics relevant to the research activities carried out in the lab.


  • HV testing up to 100 kV AC and 200 kV DC (room temperature – 200°C)
  • Impulse testing up to 600 kV peak
  • Climate chamber: -20°C to 150°C humidity [10-99%]
  • Space charge measurement systems
  • Charging/discharging current setup for conductivity measurements
  • Dielectric analyzer for dielectric spectroscopy from 0.0001 Hz to 10 MHz
  • Partial discharge instruments
  • Mechanical profilometer (surface roughness measurements)
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Karl-Fischer Titration for water content measurements.
