Optics Laboratory

Research activities

The main research activities of the laboratory, which was established in the late 70's, are:

  • Study of the propagation characteristics of waveguides and components for optical telecommunications or optical sensors.
  • Study of transmission systems in singlemode or multimode fiber for wireless signal transmission in scenarios in-building or outdoor.
  • Study of laser sources for the transmission of radio astronomic signals.
  • Recently added: study of classical optics (lenses)

Teaching activities

Exercises for courses of Bachelor and Master Degree plus Thesis activities on telecommunication systems in optical fiber (transmission of wireless and in general RF signals through the optical fiber), classical optics (lenses and lens systems) and modern optics (integrated optics, photonic crystals, etc.).

  • Vector Network Analyzer (10 MHz-9 GHz)
  • Optical Spectrum Analyzer (600 - 1750 nm, Res. 70 pm)
  • Spectrum Analyzer / Signal Generator and Analyzer (9 kHz-6 GHz Band of Analysis 31.25 MHz)
  • Laser Driver
  • CO.M.PAS.SO (for study of planar optical waveguides)
  • Software tools for design and analysis
  • PC for management of measuring setups.
