Objectives of the Programme

The Bachelor's Degree in Automation Engineering provides to students an international curriculum called AlmaTong Programme. The Programme is designed for Italian and international students from the University of Bologna and for Chinese students from Tongji University of Shanghai. At the end of the Programme each University will grant to partecipating students its own Degree:

  • Laurea in Ingegneria dell’Automazione at University of Bologna
  • Bachelor of Science in Control Theory and Control Engineering at Tongji University

Access to the AlmaTong Programme

To be admitted to the international curriculum in Automation Engineering (AlmaTong Programme) students must participate to a call during the first year of study in Bologna. The selection process will be based on criteria such as curriculum, English language level and personal motivation to join the program.

On the 1st year Courses are taught in Italian, Bologna University. The students will attend their 2nd year in Shanghai (Tongij University) together with Chinese students participating the Programme. The courses will be taught in English by Professors from Tongji University. Classes of 3rd year will be held in Italy.

Career opportunities

The Automation Engineer is an expert who can actively participate and take the lead in the executive design and development of products and systems, and who may take on full responsibility for installing, testing and maintaining complex machines and systems. The Automation Engineer, thanks to the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum, will be able to design or manage systems resulting from the integration of highly diverse components and technologies. This flexibility and multidisciplinary competences are believed to be a significant asset of the automation engineer, in view of the large variety of possible applications, of the continuous and rapid evolution of the technologies, as well as of the dynamics of the job market. Due to his international background the Master Programme allows the students to work for local international companies and abroad.

Learning activities

The goal of the Automation Engineering AlmaTong Programme is to provide graduate students with a strong background in fundamental scientific disciplines, such as Mathematics and Physics, in classical engineering fields, such as Mechanics, Electric Drives, Automatic control, and in the disciplines of information and telecommunication technology, like computer science and electronics.
