Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE)

The Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is a two-year international curriculum offered as part of the graduate programme in "Ingegneria dell'Energia Elettrica". The programme is addressed both to Italian students that want to anticipate their contact with the International environment where their career will develop, and to foreign students that want to take the opportunity of studying Electrical Engineering at graduate level in a European Country.


Objectives of the Master

Students of EE - international program fully-taught in English - will attain knowledge in the advanced issues related to applied electromagnetics and power electronics, electrical machine and drives, electrical power systems, electrical technology, instrumentation and measurement. Mathematical methods, material engineering and telecommunication are basic courses that are also provided to give the students a full comprehension of all the aspects of EE. The use of renewables, one of the focus of EE, calls nowadays for an even smarter management of the electric network: the smart grid paradigm originates indeed form such a technical challenge.

Career opportunities

The Electrical Engineers  are the repository of scientific and technical knowledge pertaining to the production, transmission and use of electricity and of a multidisciplinary technical-scientific culture that makes them a particularly versatile professional figure. Employment opportunities are manifold, and the preparation acquired allows him/her to play key roles in the fields of  industrial, technological and environmental engineering.
For example, the Electrical Engineer manages large power grids, is responsible for the production of electricity from conventional as well as renewable energy (smart grid), takes care of environment protection and energy saving, designs electrical systems, measurement instrumentations and drives for industrial automation and for electric traction, and he/she is engaged in nanotechnology research, electromagnetic compatibility,  plasmas and superconductors.
The demand for Electrical Engineers has always been very high, so that the new graduates in Electrical Engineering  are not currently sufficient in number to meet the demand of the labor market.


Learning activities

Electrical Engineering is s a 120 credits, four-semester programme, consisting in core classes (60 credits), complementary classes (12 credits), elective classes (15 credits), technical english classes (6 credits) and a master thesis (27 credits). Course units are in the areas of power systems, electrical machines and drives, electrical measurements and instrumentation, electrotechnics, economics and management, telecommunications, control systems and mathematical model. The teaching method includes both lectures and laboratory sessions.
