Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering

Telecommunications Engineering is a two-year, international graduate programme addressed both to Italian students that want to anticipate their contact with the International environment in which their career will develop, and to foreign students that want to take the opportunity of studying Telecommunications Engineering at graduate level in a European Country.

Objectives of the Master

Telecommunications Engineering is an international program fully-taught in English through which, on the one hand, students will acquire a deep knowledge of the four macro-layer of telecommunications: electromagnetism, signal and systems, networks, application and services; on the other hand, they will obtain a solid background in basic related fields (such as electrical circuits and devices, computer science and mathematics). Students will be supported in developing an appropriate attitude towards analytical and designing methodologies, along with organizational and management skills. The two curricula CD2S (Communication Devices, Signals, and Systems) and CN2S (Communication Networks, Services, and Systems) are focused on two topics both extremely relevant: the first one on signals and devices and the second one on networks and services.

Career opportunities

Nowadays telecommunications are pervasive, applying  to all products of modern life. A telecommunication engineer is able to design, implement and manage telecommunication devices, systems, networks and services.

Moreover, a solid background in telecommunications can be very helpful in many other jobs and professional positions: about 50% of the telecommunications engineers who graduated from  the University of Bologna find a job in companies not belonging to the field of telecommunications.

 

Learning activities

Learning activities are based on the established tradition of telecommunications engineering studies in Bologna: they span from signal propagation in both radio and optical media to communication theory, networks, applications and services, including lectures, laboratory activities and seminars. The course value is strengthened by connections with numerous national and regional industrial partners, resulting in opportunities as internships and student-oriented presentations. Students will be able to benefit from active cooperation at the international level as well as spending a period abroad, broadening his/her  knowledge and personal background.
